Physiological amounts of polyiodothyronine in a medium, e.g. serum, are detected or determined by a homogeneous enzyme immunoanalysis. To this end, an enzyme is used which for the most part is reversibly inhibited by polyiodothyronine bound thereto. The medium, the inhibited enzyme and an antibody for polyiodothyronine are brought together in an aqueous zone which contains a substrate for the enzyme. The antibody is employed in an amount such that it substantially increases the enzyme activity of the inhibited enzyme if no free polyiodothyronine is present. If the medium added contains free polyiodothyronine, the increase in the enzyme activity is lower. By determination of the enzyme activity in the aqueous zone, the polyiodothyronine content of the medium can therefore be determined.
|
