The flush-valve uses a vertically reciprocating piston action with a tubular piston-rod (1) connected directly to a control-handle. The head of the piston carries a flexible diaphragm (5) which can close on outlet (O) to the toilet. The diaphragm (5) travels in a cylindrical housing (6) with primary piston-rod-guide provided by a tube (2) extending vertically from the top of the housing. A secondary piston-guide may be provided by a bar (7) extending vertically from a diaphragm-washer to pass through a slot in the top of the casing (6). Water enters the casing through wall-openings (8) and bears on the top of the diaphragm (5) to augment the seal at closure.
