The automatically driven timer has a spring with a drive member operated by the flow of the pressure medium which is being controlled. The control instrument can be mounted in the pipe of a warm water central heating plant and incorporates a flow control valve (44) and a water driven motor. The motor tightens a storage spring which serves as the energy source of the timer (66). The control instrument further incorporates an arrangement for opening and closing the flow control valve. a temperature sensitive valve (15) is mounted in series with the flow control valve.
