The Ski brakes consists of two skids (11, 12) with serrated edges, rigidly attached to opposite ends of a beam (7). The beam (7) is mounted by a horizontal hinge pin (9) to a bracket (4) which is in turn, fixed with a vertical hinge pin (2) to the ski. A catch (19) holds the beam in longitudinal alignment with the ski. When the skier's foot leaves the ski the catch (19) is released and the tension spring (14) rotates the beam through 90 deg. in the horizontal plane. The blades (11, 12) dig into the snow and are then rotated through 90 deg. in the vertical plane so that a high braking force is exerted on the ski.
|
