Transportable lifting equipment for lifting containers on or offvehicles includes two separate lifting assemblies joined together by a base beam (11). The distance between the assemblies is adjustable to enable a vehicle to be driven between them. Each assembly is provided with a base part (1, 2) which rests on a bearing surface and with a column (3) projecting upwards from the base part (1, 2). The column (3) forms a guide for a sliding body (4) which moves along the column (3). The sliding body (4) is fitted with a sidewards projecting knee plate (5) which with its end section (5') engages the corner profile of the lifted container. The sliding body is lifted by cylinder (8) which with its piston rod (7) acts on a power transferring arrangement (10).
