Cutting thermoplastics foam mouldings from a blank - by making a cut in three directions with one single stroke

Thermoplastics foam mouldings are cut out from a blank, e.g., by severing an edge strip, using a cutting tool which enables a "three-dimensional" cut to be effected in one single stroke. The cutter is a steel band which is electrically heated to 200-300 degrees C. The severing occurs by melting the plastics foam along the cutting line, without counter pressure. Clean cuts are achieved even on relatively thick mouldings. The cutting heat also seals the pores of the foam material along the cutting time.
