<p>1505052 Slitting apparatus S & S CORRUGATED PAPER MACHINERY CO Inc 15 April 1976 [15 May 1975] 15764/76 Heading B4B Apparatus for use in making boxes, i.e., slitting box blanks 10 comprises a slitting head 45 connected to a rotatable driveshaft 46 and including a first head section 55 keyed to the shaft and supporting a first blade 38, a second head section 56 carrying a second blade 39, a clutch 65, 66 for drivingly connecting the two sections, the second head section being arranged to be connected to a stationary member 60 when the clutch is disengaged whereby the angular position of the first blade relative to the second blade can be adjusted by rotating the drive-shaft to rotate the first head section. The first and second blades 38, 39 are provided with pins 52, 58 which engage in bores 53, 59 in the head sections 55, 56, respectively, and co-operate with a grooved roller 50. The clutch includes elements 65, 66 which are rotationally keyed to the head section 55, 56 respectively but free to move axially. The elements are normally loaded by main springs 64. In operation, to adjust the angular setting of the blades, the spring pressure is released by actuating a compressed-air actuated piston 73, the clutch elements then being moved axially by secondary springs 63 until holes 56a in one of the elements 66 engages with pins 60a in the stationary member 60. The shaft is then rotated to turn the head section 55 relative to the section 56 to thereby adjust the angle of the blades. If it is desired to replace a blade, air is fed via pipe (76x), Fig. 6 (not shown), to move the head section 56 axially to thereby allow the pins 52 or 58 to be disengaged from their respective holes 53 or 59.</p> |
