<p>Subscriber lines carry batches of incoming or outgoing data. Each batch consists of a preamble containing the origina dn address of the batch, and a main part containing the information proper. The exchange has a switching unit for direction of data to the terminal stations specified in the address; a number of data batch processing units connected to terminal stations for one or several lines, and to the switching unit, for data transmission from terminal stations to the switching unit and vice-versa. Each data processing unit has circuits responding to the preamble of data batches passing through the unit, in order to derive from it switching information.</p> |
