Prodn. of an aminated silicate cpd. is claimed in which a silicate cpd. (e.g. silica) is heated at 200-500 degrees C in the absence of oxygen and any moisture content and then, the temp. lowered and the resulting silicate cpd. treated with amino-alcohol (e.g. monoethanol-amine, diethanol-amine or triethanol-amine) at 100-250 degrees C. Aminated silicate cpd. is used as adsorbent or tackifying agent.
