1503761 Infra-red surveillance ELLIOTT BROS (LONDON) Ltd 25 Feb 1976 [22 March 1975] 12072/75 Heading H4F A surveillance system comprises a television camera I and display 3 providing an image of a scene, and an array of infra-red detectors 5 which view part of the same scene and provide brightenup signals to the display 3 to highlight heatemitting objects. The system is airborne, the t.v. camera 1 being a low light-level type viewing a portion of the ground ahead of the aircraft and providing a head-up display 3. The infra-red detectors 5 may be arranged either as a fixed linear array viewing a horizontal band across the centre of the scene or as a short vertical array which is scanned across the scene. Threshold detectors 10 sense which i.r. detectors are providing a significant output and store the results. The stored information is then mixed with the appropriate portion of the video signal from camera 1 after making allowance 14 for aircraft velocity and attitude. |
