The engine has a ring of combustion chambers (10,13) surrounding a rotating tube (1). The chambers receive air from a compressor (22) and a reservoir (55) through valves (16,19). Ports (30,27,37,40,43,46) from the combustion chambers admit hot gases in sequence to injector nozzles (2,3,4) along the length of the tube. Each injector nozzle is associated with a venturi mixing nozzle (5,6,7) through which it draws in and compresses fresh air. The resulting mixture is at a lower temperature than the combustion gases and is admitted into a turbine (49) which can be constructed of materials not capable of withstanding a high temperature. The turbine drives a generator (52) and an inlet fan (51).
