Sail board hull made of synthetic resin - has two half-shells bonded together and uses sandwich shells with fibre-reinforced plastics skins and rigid foam filling

The sailboard hull conventionally comprises top and bottom half shells of synthetic material, bonded along the edges. Each shell (1,2) is of sandwich construction, having internal and external skins of glass or carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, and a non-porous rigid-foam filling. The filling thickness is 5mm - 2mm and the outer skin thickness at least twice that of the inner. Transverse bulkheads (9,10,11,12) subdivide the space between the half-shells; the chambers so formed have openings (13,14) with closures, for water-ballasting. A dagger board casing is fitted between and bonded to the shells and provides further reinforcement.
