PURPOSE: To obtain a projection type display system constituted without using an absorption type color filter at the inside of a liquid crystal device by selectively energizing so as to make light energy where the light of an unwanted color is reflected from the corresponding picture element position of a color filter and is absorbed by the color filter substantially become zero. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal device body structure having the color filter 32 possesses linear polarizers 22 and 36 interposing components in a sandwiched state at inside, and the column direction electrode 30 of a picture element, a liquid crystal layer 28, a common column direction electrode 26 and the color filter 32 are successively put between glass substrates 24 and 34. Electrode body structures 26 and 30 are selectively energized, and the light of a desired color passes the picture element position of the liquid crystal device 20, and the light of the unwanted color is reflected from the corresponding picture element position, so that the light energy absorbed substantially becomes zero at the inside of the color filter 32. A projection system 100 possesses a light source 102 and a condensing lens 104 projecting white light to the liquid crystal device 106 using a reflection type color filter. Thus, a projection system constituted of the liquid crystal device using the color filter of a reflection type, not an absorption type, is obtained. |
