发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain the high-performance liquid crystal device which is substantially free from an increase in panel thickness by using a liquid crystal structure the spiral axis of which is perpendicular to the surface of film chips and the sense of the spiral is reverse from the sense of the spiral of a TN liquid crystal and forming the film chips to the thickness of prescribed times the spiral pitch. CONSTITUTION:Org. film chip arrays of optical compensation corresponding to respective picture elements or the org. films for optical compensation corresponding to the respective panels are provided between a liquid crystal panel and a deflecting plate. The respective org. films for optical compensation consist of the solid polymer films having a chiral nematic liquid crystal structure. The spiral axis of the liquid crystal structure is perpendicular to the film plane and the sense of the spiral is reverse from the sense of the twist of the TN liquid crystal; in addition, the org. films are formed to the thickness of theta/2pi times the spiral pitch, where theta is the twist angle of the TN liquid crystal. The wavelength dispersion of the optically rotatory power intrinsically possessed by the TN liquid crystal layer is compensated by the org. films in such a manner. The low-cost liquid crystal display device with which the color tones of the high display contrast without having coloring are obtd. and which is less increased in the thickness over the entire part of the display device is obtd. in this way.
