The carriage carries two pawls 6, 9, each associated with a respective rack 4, 5 having toothings of different pitch. Member 17 is vertically movable by means of universal bar 20 to select one of the pawls (pawl 9 as shown in Fig. 1). Selection is caused by tip 27 and stud 28 respectively following guide surfaces 24, 25. Each pawl 6, 9 has a beak 14, 15 engageable by a control bar 16 which removes the respective pawl catch 12, 13 from the rack 4, 5 to permit the print head carriage to move under a biasing force. |
