The wrapping machine has a rotary-driven table for the goods to be wrapped and a neighbouring column for a carriage. The carriage is height-adjustable by a threaded spindle drive and consists of an upper and lower section, tensioning the roll of wrapping foil. The upper section (19) is coupled to the threaded spindle (32), and has guides with brake bearings (27). Carrier rods (24,25) of the lower section (20) are longitudinally displaceable and lockable in the bearings, which are formed by adjustable brake shoes (29,30). The carrier rods may be expanded to the length of the spindle. The base stop position of the carriage (8) corresponds to the lowest position of the lower section.
