The system comprises control circuitry connected to A-D converter. A backup flow is arranged to receive most significant portions of each data word from each main flow. Synchronisation and parity coding are added to each data word on each main and a backup flow. Comparator selector circuitry checks the most significant data on the main flow against the data on the reflective backup flow to determine if a match exists to pass appropriate signals. Error detection and correction circuitry is connected to the synchroniser code finder, the parity checking circuitry and the comparator selector circuitry. A data word memory receives bits from the comparator selector circuitry and clock for synchronising output to playback head.
