1445355 Hydraulic master cylinders; boosters GIRLING Ltd 28 Nov 1974 [22 Dec 1973] 59683/73 Heading F2F To reduce the extra pedal force required on failure of an hydraulic or pneumatic booster 2 an auxiliary piston 20 of larger diameter than a master cylinder piston 5 is located between the piston 5 and the booster output member 23, and a valve 27 is provided which closes on booster operation to isolate the inter piston space 22 and cause the piston 5 to travel further than the piston 20 and which opens on booster failure to communicate the inter-piston space through passages 25, 24, 13 and 15 with a reservoir when the piston 20 moves the piston 5 directly. In Fig. 1 a valve member 28 is secured to a diaphragm 29 the opposite sides of which are subject through a passage 32 and a conduit 33 with the constant and variable suction chambers respectively of a suspended-vacuum booster 2. In Fig. 3 the valve member 35 is subject to the force of a spring 39 and the hydraulic booster pressure communicated through a passage 37.
|
