The automatically reversing bucket (41) is for use on a bucket-conveyor or wheel (33) in the handling of pulverised or granular material. The bucket now has a quarter-circular elevation can pivot about an axle (27) through the centre of the definitive circle and has trough shaped mouths (40) in each of the extreme radial planes. The bucket-wheel is driven by a coaxial crown-wheel (34) which also effects bucket reversal. When motion of the conveyor is reversed the crown-wheel may temporarily travel faster than the bucket wheel. A relative angular displacement of the two wheels occurs and a fork (31) which is fixed to the crown-wheel displaces a lever (30) which is built onto the bucket-axle (27). The bucket pivots about its axle until the previously open mouth is seated on a plane wheel surface (S) and the other mouth opens in the opposite sense.
