Tangled component separating process - which repeatedly lifts and lowers mass until it has completely disintegrated

The process separates components tending to stick together, such as hooks, springs washers etc. The mass of components supported on a base is gripped at the top, and lifted, and then lowered again and/or released, this operation being repeated until it has disintegrated. The items remaining behind on the base are continuously or intermittently removed and further separated, sorted or aligned as necessary. The mass can be accommodated in a hopper (1) above an outlet (2), and lifted by a mechanism above the hopper (8) equipped with a grab, magnet, suction head etc. There can be a rotary brush at the hopper outlet, its bristles being interchangeable or adjustable to vary the effective length (4).
