The pipe-joining equipment has bulkheads fitting in the pipes on both sides of the weld to be made between them, to form a sealed working chamber accommodating a mobile welding unit rotating round the pipe axis and working under vacuum. Each bulkhead comprises two or more panels (41, 42) fitting again the pipe inner wall. The monitoring chambers are pumped out individually, these being formed between panels and pipe wall. There can be locking devices between the bulkheads, to secure them in the working position by moving in relation to each other in the lengthwise direction.
