Nucleating device for crystal melts - comprising material with micro-cavities contg. crystal nuclei

Nucleating device for facilitating the crystallisation of a melt comprises a material having a disordered lattice contg. microcavities which in turn contain solid crystals capable of acting as nuclei for the crystallisation. The microcavities are pref. disposed in the surface of the material and the material is pref. a glass, most pref. soda-silica glass. Device is esp. useful in thermal storage devices operating on the heat of fusion of salt principle. It nucleates crystals of a wider range of salts than prior devices.
