The centreboard, or the keel of the sailing boat has rigid front and rear edges, with the middle comprising a flexible layer. The keel bends under drag when the boat is sailing into the wind and increases the grip on the water. This provides improved stability without increasing the weight, size, and drag of the keel. The keel assumes a concave shape w.r.t. the drifting, while drag in the forward direction is not greatly increased.
