Tumbler drier combined with a washing machine has a rotary drum whose peripheral wall is devoid of apertures and side walls are provided with a small number of apertures for expulsion of moisture laden hot air which is exhausted tangentially into a condenser cooled by water and connected to ambient air over a water filled lock during the drying period. After drying the water is pumped out of the lock, the upper loading door which is spring biassed is opened and kept open during an airing cycle.
