Pyrazolone compounds of the formula WHEREIN R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R2 represents a lower alkyl group or a lower alkenyl group, X represents a halogen atom, Y represents a halogen atom, a nitro group, a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxy group, n is an integer of 1 to 3 and when n is 2 or 3, Y's may be the same or different. These compounds are useful as herbicides and obtainable by reacting the corresponding 5-pyrazolone derivatives with a halogenating agent.
