<p>Dyeing of leather comprises simultaneous application of acid and basic dyes, from a common dye bath contg. alkalis to give pH over 7.5, pref. 8-10. No mutual pptn. of the oppositely-charged dyes occurs under the alkaline conditions. Very deep, full shades are obtd. in a single process, which simpler than alternate application of the dyes or milling the leather with mixed dye powders. Conventional dyeing equipment can be used, without tangling of the skins. Brilliant shades with improved fastnes are obtd. without bronzing of the leather surface often found when using large amounts of basic dyes.</p> |
