The disc brake has a pair of discs which have ramps (8) between them, to be spread apart axially when being turned by a bell crank lever (20) pivoted to a lug (17) extending radially from one of the discs. One arm of the lever is acted on by a hydraulic actuator or manually (36). The other arm is connected by a link (24) to a lug (18) extending radially from the other disc. When the lever is pivoted to apply the brake the link is placed into tension and the two lugs are drawn towards one another.
