Opener for sparkling wine bottles consists of a hollow needle (1) which has gas entry (4) and outlet (6) ports at the tip (3) and at the opposite end to this, respectively. Preferably the gas entry is between 0.5 and 0.8 mm in diameter and issues at the side of the needle. The point of the needle should be bevelled on one side. The needle should be in a holder and twist up and down by means of an interposed thread piece. Two claw arms facing one another on the holder should grasp round the cork rim in response to the downward movement of a shouldered sleeve component acting on the lever arm ends furthest from the cork.
