Hydro-mechanical deep drawing press - uses part elastomer die which enters liq. filled space to form complex shape workpiece (CS 31.5.77)

The die consists of a bottom part (1) which has a hollow (2) filled with fluid. The material (4) which is to be deep drawn is clamped by an upper part (5) against a sealing ring (3) mounted in the bottom part. A die arrangement (6) can be pressed down through a bore in the upper part. The die consists of a fixed part (8) and a sliding part (13) which can move relative to the fixed part. An elastomer sleeve (9) is mounted on the moving part. When the die is pressed against the material to be deep drawn, it pushes the material into the liq. filled cavity. The pressure of the liq. will increase and push the moving part of the die upward, till it clamps the elastomer part. The elastomer part will bulge out, while the liq. will push the material against the die.
