Continuous dyeing or printing of natural or synthetic textiles is effected using aq. baths or pastes contg. usual dyes and a cpd. of formula: R-(-CH2-CHR2-O)x-R1 (I) (in which R is O-alkyl, O-aryl or NR4-SO2-alkyl; R1 is CH2CHR3CN, or also H is R is NR4-SO2-alkyl; R2 and R3 are H or Me; R4 is H or (CHCHR2-O-)xR1; x is 0-20, pref. 0-7), with subsequent heat treatment. Concn. of (I) is pref. 10-20 g/l. Used for colouring of flocks, yarns, tows, woven or knitted fabrics from wool, silk, polyurethanes, -polycaprolactam, etc. A wide choice of dyes and pH is possible. (I) exerts a good dispersing action on the dye and produces no harmful foaming.
