The brake trolley, esp. on underground mine layouts, is for travel on an I-shaped monorail suspension track rail, with brake shoes operating against the rail (1) on both sides, on lever arms with activating and venting devices between them. The brake shoes (2, 3) are paired in a V-shape against the rail stem (12) on a common swivel axis. Bottom and top shoes can be splayed against bottom and top rail flanges (7, 8) by advancing the swivel axis (6) which is mounted in a slit guide (9) set orthogonally to the rail. The bottom shoe is supported against an abutment (10) sloping towards the bottom flange, and when the brake is free the top one is supported against the bottom one. A simple structure ensures brake shoe operation irrespective of uneven rail surfaces.
