<p>The silencer has an inlet passage (12) connected to the exhaust of the motor. The inlet passage opens into a larger chamber (13) which is almost closed by a baffle plate (14) facing the inlet. There is an annular gap round the circumference of the baffle plate and another chamber (17) on the other side of the baffle plate. This chamber tapers to an outlet (25) leading to atmosphere. The cross sections provided to flow by the outlet, the two chambers (13, 17) and the annular gap round the baffle plate are the same as that of the inlet passage (12). This provides an effective silencer which does not require lining with acoustic material. This avoids difficulties arising from contamination of such materials.</p> |
