Process for the preparation of a coherent porous collagen film material in which natural, insoluble, particulate collagen is prepared in virtually pure form, and the particulate collagen is suspended in an aqueous solution of a weak organic acid while the collagen is kept in particulate form. The suspension is freeze-dried, resulting in a coherent, porous, native collagen film material which can be used as wound dressing, burn dressing, haemostatic film or the like.
