PURPOSE:To homogeneously degum silk filaments with excellent reproducibility in a short without deteriorating fibroin by utilizing composite effects of an alkaline buffer solution containing an alkali metal salt of a polybasic acid having a specific dissociation constant and a prescribed acid with calcium hydroxide, etc. CONSTITUTION:Silk filaments are degummed utilizing composite effects of an alkaline buffer solution, prepared by adding an alkali metal salt of a polybasic acid (e.g. potassium or sodium borate) having a dissociation constant within the range of 6-10 and an acid, such as boric acid, and having buffering within a suitable pH region with calcium hydroxide, barium hydroxide or a mixture thereof. The above-mentioned buffer solution and one selected from sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium silicate, sodium borate and potassium salts thereof and a cationic surfactant are used in combination for wild silk and colored raw silk, etc., to carry out degumming. Thereby, the homogeneous degumming is performed by suitably controlling the residual amount of sericin according to the use of the silk in a short time with excellent reproducibility without deteriorating fibroin. |
