<p>1442567 Immobilizing electrolyte of dry cells VARTA BATTERIE AG 17 Oct 1974 [18 Oct 1973] 45058/74 Heading H1B A depolarizer mass for a primary cell comprises manganese dioxide, graphite and/or carbon black and an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and/or zinc chloride, the aqueous electrolyte comprising at least 25% by weight of the mass, and at least part of the surface of the solid constituents being water repellent by means of a hydrophobic agent. The hydrophobic agent constitutes between 0À02% and 0À5% by weight of the mass relative to the solid components and is preferably a silicone oil or a silcone grease. The hydrophobic agent may be dissolved in benzene or acetone and the solution used to impregnate the solid components of the mass, the solvent then being evaporated. Alternatively, an oil-in-water emulsion may be used and added to either the solid or the electrolyte solution prior to mixing of the mass. The electrolyte preferably acts as a demulsifier causing the hydrophobic agent to be deposited on the solid components. A demulsifier may also be added.</p> |
