PURPOSE:To distribute a damage to a recording surface during long-time still reproduction to respective tracks uniformly and minimize it by making an advance to a next track one after another when the still reproduction exceedes a maximum permissible time. CONSTITUTION:A track is reproduced by a head 26 repeatedly in an on-track state and a video signal processing circuit 36 performs conversion into a composite video signal by, for example, one-frame, two-field interlaced scanning to reproduce a still image. A timer 122 monitors the total time of the continuous still reproduction from one track. When this reproduction exceedes the specific time, i.e. 15min, a main control part 104 leads the head 26 to the next track, so damage to the recording surface is prevented. Thus, the still reproduction is carried on by advancing the head 26 up to the final recorded track and when the head 26 reaches an unrecorded part, the feed direction of the head 26 is inverted. |
