The apparatus is for destroying suckers or runners, partic. of strawberry plants grown for example on plastics sheets. It comprises a horizontal cutter adjustable in height, and a deflector for directing vegetation towards the cutter. The apparatus may also be used for topping the plants, and for cutting the grass between plant vows. The deflection may comprise a pair of oblique rotary brushes, a laterally-spaced pair of conical brushes on axes parallel to the travel direction, or a laterally-spaced pair of vertical curved metal plates converging to the rear. In the latter case, two transverse shafts carry cylindrical brushes at either end.
