The temperature transducer for use on rapidly moving specimens esp. in centrifuges, comprises a measuring cell (3) having two inner bores (1, 2) which are filled with a transparent medium. The medium in each cell chamber is such that its refractive index varies with temperature. The cell is placed in the ray path of an optical system (S) so that the differential temperature effect on the indices causes a shifting of the interference lines produced by the optical system. A detector converts the optical effect into a signal proportional to the temperature. Alternatively, a single chamber cell can be employed in which either interference or schlieren optics provide the output signal.
