Switching panel stages consist of switching multiples with first intermediate lines running from one stage to another in reverse grouping. Outputs of two switching multiples esp. in the last stage, are interconnected by second intermediate lines. Connections between two switching panel inputs are made by two part connections which run either through normal paths twice through switching multiples of all stages and one of the above second intermediate lines, or through short paths to a switching multiple at the reversing point of a short path in one of the stages, in which they are combined into one through connection by connection of two switching multiple inputs to the same multiple output. Contacts of intermediate line relays are inserted into the second intermediate lines by which one of the intermediate lines can be broken. When a short connection is made, the second intermediate line connected to the multiple output is broken by operation of its relay to which the two part connections are connected in the multiple at the short path reversing point.
