Stirring device for ink ducts has rotary stirring member (2) supported on a cartridge (1) which is moved to and fro along the ink duct by an endless chain (16). Latter has a lug (13) whereby to alternately engage abutments (10, 11) provided at the sides of the carriage adjacent the respective runs of the chain. The abutments are provided at diametrally opposite parts of a disc (4) biased against rotation by a spring (9) applying a latch roller (7). At the end of each run, when the carriage engages a stop, the lug forces the disc to turn against the force of the latch to allow the lug to pass.
