Method of utilising waste heat from a nuclear power station in an environmentally acceptable manner consists of arranging a number of greenhouses in rings or star pattern around the power station and using the waste heat to heat and humidify them. More specifically, as the temp. changes, the quantity of heat transmitted to a greenhouse can be varied by changing from a longer path to a shorter path through the heating pipes. A thermostatically controlled valve is used for this purpose. A large number of greenhouses can be supplied from a single distributor or header around the power station. In a pref. site layout, there is a single access road to the power station to permit max. utilisation of land for the greenhouses. The very large quantities of waste heat generated by a nuclear power station are effectively utilised for cultivation and the growing of tropical fruits and vegetables, instead of discharging directly to the atmos. and thus being a cause of environmental protest.
|
