A float valve in a cooling tower basin regulates a purge to drain. Used in direct-contact water cooling tower systems in which there can be a loss from the system by evapn. and spray carry-over. The concn. of dissolved solids in the circulating cooling water is kept constant by a very simple means which does not involve elaborate temp. sensing or liq. conductivity measurement.
