1502651 Chucks ETABS AMYOT SA 14 Feb 1975 [19 Feb 1974] 6414/75 Heading B3B A chuck comprises a body 1, grooves 11 in the body inclined to the axis of the body to converge towards a tool receiving end of the body, jaws 2 slidable in the grooves, an actuating nut 3 rotatably carried by the body and having a threaded bore, to engage threaded portions on the jaws 2 so that rotation of the nut on the body causes movement of the jaws along the grooves 11, and a ring 4 having teeth to be engaged by a chuck key and a shoulder adjacent the teeth with an internal diameter smaller than the external diameter of the nut to retain the ring on the nut. The chuck is characterized by the nut and/or the ring being made of sintered metal, and by the provision of a separately formed skirt 5 surrounding the body at its spindle drive receiving end. The skirt 5 may be a steel, plastics or cast light alloy tubular member which is an interference fit on the ring 4 with an inturned end engaging a shoulder or groove of the ring 4. Alternatively the skirt may engage with the nut, with the ring 4 external to the skirt 5. The chuck arrangement is said to resist loosening in a percussive drilling operation. |
