The subscriber network terminal is connected to a local clock pulse oscillator forming a slave clock. A station side line terminal is connected to a clock pulse oscillator forming the system's master clock. For subscriber-initiated activation the network terminal receives an activation request and sends a binary, continuous and cyclic bit pattern code with plesiochronous clock pulse rate to the line terminal. The line terminal sends back an activation order signal as binary data in frame format including synchronizing information.
