1508699 Polymeric thiols CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIC VED 15 July 1976 [25 July 1975] 29495/76 Headings C3A and C3P Polymeric thiols are obtained by (1) reacting a polymeric nitroester of formula P-O-NO2, in which P is the polymeric backbone of either cellulose or a methacrylate polymer containing pendant hydroxyl groups, with a sulphur compound selected from thiourea, an alkali metal xanthate, ammonium dithiocarbamidate or an alkali metal or ammonium sulphide or hydrosulphide, and (2) hydrolysing the reaction product. In examples, cellulose nitrate and nitrated 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate copolymer are each reacted with thiourea and then hydrolysed with NaOH, and the same copolymer is reacted with potassium ethyl xanthate and then hydrolysed with dilute ammonia.
