A device is used for introducing soluble solids (21) into the fluid content (5) of a Calvet microcalorimeter. It comprises a capsule (20) which may be moved vertically into the solvent by the device. The device comprises a long rod (18) mounted vertically in a sleeve (15). The lower end of the rod supports the capsule (20) and has depth index markings on its upper end by means of which the precise locations of the capsule in the microcalorimeter may be determined for the outside. The sleeve (15) is itself vertically displaceable within a coaxial housing (11) with which it engages by annular heat seals (16).
