The method is for performing operations on a container-sleeve, firstly on its lower end and then after the sleeve (2) is lowered, on the upper end. The sleeve is lowered until it bears on a support table (1) which also supports the sleeve during the upper operation. A conveyor moves the support carrying the sleeve from a station performing the lower operation to another station. - The support is beneath the lowering mechanism. The sleeve which has been made by folding sheet material with a tendency to unfold, comprises a retainer including a latch releasably bearing against the external surface of the sleeve. This keeps the sleeve in the required position and is mounted by a mounting piece to the sleeve. At the folding station, a closure sealing sub-panel is heated making it tacky.
