New ketones have formula Me2CH-CH2-X-Y-CR2O (I) (where X is -CH2-CH(CHMe2)- or -CH=C(CHMe2)-; Y is -CH2-CHR1- or -CH=CH1-; R1 is H, or 1-3C alkyl, esp. H or Me, and R2 is opt. branched 1-6C alkyl, esp. Me or Et). New alcohols having formula Me2CH-CH2-X-Y-CH(OH-R2, (IV) are also new. (I) are used as perfume and aroma compsns., e.g. for perfumes, sprays, shampoos, soaps and other cosmetics; for perfuming consumer prods. and for aromatising food and drink. (I) have a harmonious fruity, partly sweet, partly musky fragrance. Fragrance lingers a long time. Other perfumes are fixed. (I) are intermediates is prodn. of further perfumes and flavouring materials, e.g. alcohols (Iv) and esters.
