The programmable calibrator has a number of interrupted internal conductors between a pair of printed circuit boards with the correct characteristic resistance. The gaps between the internal conductors can be bridged by shorting links or via attenuator networks. The switching is carried out externally. The end contacts (8, 9) of the internal conductor section (3) and the attenuator network (5) are in a plane parallel to the printed circuit boards (1, 2). They are fitted with three U-shaped shorting links (10, 11, 12), which are switched via pins (13) at right angles to the plane of the end contacts. When not engaged, the shorting links are each up against the inside of the printed circuit board.
