1524459 Two-part electrical connectors WESTERN GEOPHYSICAL CO OF AMERICA 17 Aug 1976 [22 Aug 1975] 34249/76 Heading H2E A multi-contact connector comprises a pair of plugs 11, 12 each of which houses a rigid flat base 16 having a plurality of transverse apertures 20 (21) (Fig. 8, not shown) each provided with a contact insert 30. The inserts 30 each include a non-conducting resilient support body and an electric contact 23 supported thereby, and in use, when the two plugs 11, 12, are moved toward each other for latching engagement, the facing ends of opposed contacts 23 become resiliently engaged under pressure. As described, the connector is for connecting geophone cables. Each plug 11, 12 is provided with two groups 13, 14 of contacts 23, the plane of symmetry of the contacts in one group being preferably perpendicular to that in the other. The latching is effected by rotatably mounted collars 60 having grooves 61 which accommodate respective pins 62. An 0-ring 56 around the edge of each base 16 seals of the space occupied by the abutting ends of the contacts 23 in the assembled connector. |
